Comparative experiments on chrysanthemums under negative ion air conditioners of different manufacturers (2400kb)
-Comparing negative ion generating air conditioners of two different manufacturers-

Even though there are many kinds of negative ion products in the market, not so many objective and scientific data are available for the end users to see the effectiveness. The purpose of this experiment is to examine how negative ion generating air conditioner can affect plants, and how the effect can vary with air conditioners of different manufacturers.
Two negative ion air conditioners of different manufactures (company S and Company T) and a regular air conditioner without negative ion function (control) were prepared and each room had one air conditioner installed. With different air conditioner condition, growing process of chrysanthemums was observed. Main observing point was the number of days before they died.
Each air conditioner was installed on the wall at 170cm height. Each room had four chrysanthemum flowers in vases to be observed until they died, under the same humidity and temperature condition as possible in every room.
As result, after 15 days, the flowers in room A (company S-made air conditioner) and room C (control) died. On the other hand, the flowers in room B (company T-made air conditioner) were in full bloom at the same time.
Company S-made negative ion air conditioner had bacteria eliminating function installed, but it generated O2− (H2O)n. O2−(H2O)n is super oxide that is harmful for human beings and it was clear that it was harming the chrysanthemums. Companies usually lay emphasis on advantage of products over disadvantage. However, it seems excessive as business if product disadvantage was harmful oxidized substance seems


Research on formaldehyde concentration distribution in a room
Examined a correlation between formaldehyde and atmospheric ion in terms of its concentration distribution in vertical and horizontal direction in a room based on diffusivity of negative ion.
 With previous experiment with negative ion generating air conditioner, the measurement was done only in the center of the room. That did not prove formaldehyde-decreasing effect of negative ion. There left the possibility that it may have been caused by negative ion and formaldehyde attached to the wall or ceiling inside the room. This experiment was to examine correlation between formaldehyde and atmospheric ion by measuring concentration distribution in vertical and horizontal direction in a room based on diffusivity of negative ion.
Two residential rooms without residents were prepared. Each room had a negative ion generating air conditioner installed.
One had negative ion function turned on (room 102) and the other had it off (room 103), and run both air conditioners at the same temperature and humidity to measure atmospheric ion and formaldehyde.
Comparing the total number of atmospheric ion in each room, room 102 had significantly more atmospheric ion generated than room 103.
This is due to the fact that negative ion generating function of the air conditioner was effectively working.
In the room 102, the total number of atmospheric ion was shown to change along with the airflow of air conditioner.
In the room 103, the atmospheric ions concentration was shown that there were more positive ions than negative ions. As for the atmospheric concentration difference according to height, there were more negative ions existed in higher section than lower.
As for distribution of atmospheric and formaldehyde concentration, in the room 102 where there was a mass generation of negative ion, formaldehyde concentration was clearly reduced near negative ion outlet. It is presumable that negative ion has formaldehyde reducing effect depending on measuring point.

Research on chemical substance in a student apartment
In late years, air contamination in building such as formaldehyde and volatile organic compound has been a big social issue.
13 university students of male and female cooperated to asses actual condition of student apartments where seems to have poor air ventilation.
The measurement items were indoor temperature, humidity, formaldehyde and atmospheric concentration, all measured after having the rooms closed from noon till four when the level of formaldehyde emission is considered to be the highest.
Also, a questionnaire was done on the students about their living conditions and human body impact to examine a correlation between formaldehyde concentration and volatile organic compound.
As for the mutual relation of temperature and humidity with atmospheric ion concentration, when outdoor humidity is high, there were more indoor atmospheric ions as a whole. Inside the room had more positive ions than negative ions, which was opposite to the ideal atmospheric ion ratio Dr. Akiko Sugahara and others suggest.
As for the mutual relation of living condition with atmospheric formaldehyde concentration, the measurement showed higher level of concentration in the rooms with less frequent daily air ventilation, laundry hung out inside, use of cosmetics, air freshener, hair styling products.
Some rooms with smokers had higher level of atmospheric formaldehyde concentration, but there was no significant differences shown by smoking.
There was no mutual relation of atmospheric ion concentration and atmospheric ion ratio with formaldehyde concentrations

Research on health maintenance and improvement by intake of black vinegar and black soybeans.
Black vinegar and black soybeans are both known to have various health effects.
Black vinegar has various effects such as helping with constipation, fatigue recovery, diabetes improvement, and prevention of obesity, high blood pressure. Black soybeans also have effects such as climatic age symptoms relief, prevention of cancer, high cholesterol, obesity, and regulating intestine function.
37 females at climacteric period cooperated to eat black vinegar and black soybeans health food (70g / cup = 35g black soy beans and 35g black vinegar syrup) twice a day for 100 days without any other diet restriction and examined the changes.
Also, changes were examined by questionnaire on their diet, bowel movement state (frequency, quantity, condition), physical measurement, blood examination. 
Another questionnaire had 30 questions about typical climatic age symptoms and changes were examined before and after the experiment.
As for vowel movement, frequency, quantity was increased, and condition showed improvement.
The subjects with BMI 25 showed decrease in their weight, BMI, waist and hip size.
Reduction in cholesterol value was seen 50 days after with the subjects who had relatively higher total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol.
As for climatic age symptoms, after the experiments, 19 out of 30 items were significantly improved.
The result implied that continual intake of black vinegar and black soybeans can be effective in improving vowel movement, and preventing life style related diseases such as diabetes along with overweight problems.

Report on negative ion technology on growing tomato
 In current agriculture, there are many problems such as soil deterioration by pesticide, cost increase, remained pesticide.This experiment was done with the purpose of developing technology for safe and easy future-oriented negative ion agriculture.Examined improvement in number of fruits, growth promotion, fruit element (e.g. increase in sugar concentration), thickness of leaves and stems,and researched disease resistance of the plants. Anticipated the crop yields.
 With collaboration from chemical-free tomato farmers, we separated green house into negative ion area and control area.For negative ion area, 265 negative ion plates were hang from above inside the green house with at 50 cm intervals. Also, negative ion mineral water was dispersed once a week, an hour of 300 litters dispersal a time.Growing process and crop yields were compared for three months period.Negative ion area showed more rapid growth in tomatoes.The total crop yields and expected sales in negative ion area were approximately 3 times as much as that in control area.As for the size of fruits, big size fruits in negative ion area were approximately 7 times as big as that of control area and 4.2 times for medium size fruits.
 In contrast to the immaturity of the stalk, the fruit's growth proceeded rapidly. This shows that while negative ions do not necessarily affect the growth of the plant, their effects are quite clear in the quality of the fruit.
In terms of disease, the plants undergoing negative ion treatment appeared to have fewer problems, but overall were the same as the control group. When considered with the fact that the negative ion fruit was substantially larger, it is clear that the per capita damage was reduced.
 The low-water method caused a few problems, mainly because it proved difficult to apply. While the results clearly show that the mineral water treatment was successful, it is necessary to establish a precise method of treatment.

Report on negative ion cultivation experiment with strawberries

Research on intake of soybean isflavon from food and pills for improvement in menopause -like indefinite complaints among young women
This experiment was to research correlations between the amount of isoflavon intake ( in pills and in food ) and improvement in menopause -like indefinite complaint including irregular sexual cycle among young women.
18 female nutritionists at the age of 20 to 30 cooperated with the experiment. They were divided into two groups according to their nutrition intake record before the experiment. One group (n=9) had higher intake of isoflavone, and the other (n=9) had lower intake in the record, The two groups were compared to examine if there was significant differences in indefinite complaints with different groups.
Also, the effect of isoflavone supplements was examined by having all of them to have daily intake of isofavon supplements. The subjects were divided into two groups at randomly for different dosage of isoflavone. One group took 60mg and the other took 90mg of isoflavone in the supplements per day, both taken with meals for 40 days and examined the changes in indefinite complaints.
The evaluation was made by questionnaire of 16 items of self-claim sheet on menopause -like indefinite complaints before and after 40 days of intake as well as 3 days nutrition intake record before and after the experiment.
After 40 days of isoflavone supplement intake, there was significant difference in improving symptoms of cold feet, hand, and hips. There was no significant difference between 60mg isoflavone intake group and 90mg group. This shows that 40days of 60mg isoflavone intake is enough to achieve the benefit.
In comparison of two groups of high and low isoflavone intake from food, significant difference was recognized in the group of lower isoflavone food intake group with improvement in complaint of cold hands, feet, and hips.

A Study on the Correlation Nature of Air Ions and Formaldehyde in Closed System
■Experimental Study on Air Ions in Environment Part 2
 This study is to examine utilizations of negative ion as countermeasure technology against indoor atmospheric contamination.This experiment was to clarify the potentiality of negative ion to reduce formaldehyde in open system (10.4 u residential rooms).The measurement was performed in two rooms, next to each other, with the same size and layout, facing the same direction, both seven months old and not lived in.One room has a negative ion generating air conditioner (corona discharge method), and the other one has a regular air conditioner without negative ion function. Atmospheric ion and formaldehyde concentration were measured in both rooms. Temperature and humidity were also measured.The measurement was performed twice a week from the end of August 2002. Mainly this report is on based on measurement record until October in the same year, before it became cold.
 Atmospheric ion balance was remarkably better in negative ion air-conditioned room for more negative ions than positive ions measured.However, change of formaldehyde concentration showed no significant differences. This study did not reach to prove correlation with concentration and proportion of atmospheric ion, and formaldehyde concentration.
 The measurement has rather showed that temperature and humidity has more effect on formaldehyde than negative ion concentration.This showed no more than known fact that formaldehyde concentration becomes higher at high temperature and humidity。However, this does not conclude that negative ion generation does not have function to reduce atmospheric formaldehyde concentration.In order to build the structure model to show the potentiality in negative ion to delete or reduce gaseous harmful chemical substances,it is necessary to continue measuring with careful regard to the differences in preconditions of closed and open system. and the possibility of negative ion and formaldehyde attached in the wall and ceiling.

A Study on the Correlation Nature of Air Ions and Formaldehyde in closed System

 In recent years, air-cleaning function of negative ion has gained more attention. Although it has become clear to a certain degree that negative ion deletes solid suspended particulates in atmosphere, the academic study on its function to work actively on gaseous harmful chemical substances has just started.This study is to clarify correlations between atmospheric ions and formaldehyde in closed system and examine potentiality on how atmospheric ions can contribute to improve living environment.Fc2 plywood laminate was placed in a desiccator as contaminated source, together with a negative ion generator and a simplified formaldehyde measuring machine to meter formaldehyde concentration. This was to examine formaldehyde reduction effect of negative ion and also how opening and closing of desiccators effect measurement.Measurement with negative ion generator turned off showed formaldehyde oncentration in desiccators raised over time with time.
 60 minutes after start of measurement, the desiccator's lid was open to the minimum. With measurement T, negative ion generator was turned on, and with measurement U, there was no negative ion generating, but only opening and closing of the lid.Measurement T showed radical reduction in formaldehyde concentration. On the other hand, measurement Ushowed continues raise in its concentration.
 Formaldehyde concentration was reduced in the meantime by opening the desiccator's lid, but it increased again with time.After, negative ion generator was switched off and on every 60 minutes. In this measurement, clear correlation was shown such as when the generator was turned on to generate negative ion, formaldehyde concentration was reduced, and when it was turned off, the concentration was increased.

Research on increase and decrease of house mites in living environment with negative ion.2003
 This is another experiment in closed system after the one in previous year.
Home-use negative ion generating air conditioner (Plasma ion, Dai-sei-kai , Toshiba) was installed in each room used in the previous experiment, and used it through the year to see the longer-term correlation between negative ion environment and increase and decrease of house mites.
 Using negative ion generating home-use air conditioner, the experiment was done in ten general resident rooms. Negative ion environment was created in five rooms by using negative ion air conditioner for eight hours a day minimum, and the other five rooms had standard air conditioner without negative ion generating function and were measured as control.
 House mites were collected from certain furnishing goods once a month for four months, to analyze fixed quantity of the total number of house mites in the rooms.
As result, in comparison with the control, the negative ion environment showed significant house mites reduction every month.
Considering the fact that this is a continual research from the previous year, since the last August when negative ion air conditioners were installed, every measurement has shown significant reduction in the number of house mites.

Bioactivity of soybeans and isoflavon
(PMS/ female climacteric complaint and female hormones)
 With menopause in female climacteric period, estrogen secretion in female body starts decreasing. Even among younger generation, estrogen secretion can be suppressed with different stress and excessive diet, and it can cause menstrual disorder and other complaints unique to women.
 The substance called isoflavon has estrogen-like function and it is richly contained in soybean product such as tofu.This report expounds the relation of female indefinite complaints with menstrual disorder, and relation of aging and female hormone change. Also, data from various soybean isoflavon experiments are taken up to examine the effect and potentiality of isoflavon.
 Due to its female hormone-like function, soybean isoflavon was found to have many benefits in easing climacteric disorder symptoms, preventing osteoporosis, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure.Standard Isoflavon requirement as functional nutrients is said to be from 40mg to 50mg daily, but this is hard to determine, as the urinary excretion of isoflavon is widely different among individuals.
 Female hormone-like activity of isoflavon is said to be a 1,000th to a 10,000th of estrogen. This shows action of isoflavon being mild, and it can be an indicator for safety of isoflavon on the human body.
Considering possible side effects of estrogen replacement therapy (hormone replacement therapy), the most general treatment method of climatic disorder, and its risk of developing breast cancer, more future study is expected on the effectiveness of Isoflavon that can be taken orally from food.

Report on increase and decrease of house mites with the use of negative ion generating air conditioner "Dai-Sei-Kai"(Toshiba)
 Many previous researches have shown sterilization of microorganisms and repressing fungus propagation under negative ion environment. This time, we researched how negative ion environment effects mites' propagation, the issue closely related to our every day life.
With home use negative ion generating air conditioner " Dai-Sei-Kai"(Toshiba), we collected mites from carpet, blanket, and pillow once a month for four months in six standard residential rooms. Negative ion air conditioners were used in five rooms and one was used as control. The measurement was taken from the beginning of August until the end of October.
As result, in comparison with control room, the rooms with negative ion air conditioners have shown significant difference in the average number of mites. The average number of mites in the rooms with negative ion was 44% of that in the room without one. In October 2nd, the number of mites was decreased to 39% , and to 23% in October 30th.This shows that continual use of negative ion air conditioner approximately for a year may be possible to decreases the number of mites to zero.

Research on increase and decrease of house mites fixed quantity under negative ion environment.
 Many previous experiments have proven sterilizing effect on microorganisms or fungus in negative ion environment. This experiment was done indoor, closely related with every day life and health, to examine the basic correlations between the increase and decrease of house mites and negative ion environment.
House mites were collected once a month for four months from certain furniture in five standard residential rooms with negative ion generating air conditioner (Dai-Sei-Kai, Toshiba), and another room with standard air conditioner as control to compare and examine fixed quantity.
 The main research theme of this experiment was to examine how constant use of negative ion air conditioner can significantly reduce the number of house mites in lived-in space in comparison with the non-negative ion environment case
As result, the measurement data in September, October, and November (with each previous month of daily negative ion air conditioner use)
Showed that the average number of house mites in the negative ion air-conditioned rooms showed significant reduction compared with the control room.
It is reasonable to assume that using negative ion air conditioner is beneficial in reducing the house mites' number and preventing allergy and asthma and improve standards of health.
 Additionally, from June to August, when the humidity becomes higher, using negative ion air conditioner makes it possible to control humidity and the root of house mites' mass generation can be cut off. From this aspect also, this can be a totally new method to reduce house mites.
